Honored with the Resilience Award by Promise2Live

Tomorrow, I have the immense honor of receiving the Resilience Award from Promise2Live, a charity dedicated to helping people make the promise to live. Standing in this moment fills me with deep gratitude, not only for this recognition but for the journey that led to this point. Mourning Glory was born from my own grief after losing my father to suicide in 2017. That loss was a transformative experience that brought me face-to-face with unimaginable pain, but it also sparked a fire in me to create something meaningful from the darkness.

The Birth of Mourning Glory

Navigating the complex grief of losing someone to suicide felt overwhelming, but it was through connecting with other survivors that I found hope and healing. Their courage to share their stories and open up about their pain showed me the power of community, and it inspired me to create Mourning Glory. Our mission is simple but vital: to de-stigmatize suicide loss and provide survivors with a safe space for healing, through support, compassion, and meaningful conversations.

Resilience in the Face of Grief

Receiving the Resilience Award isn’t just about my own journey; it’s a testament to the strength of all suicide loss survivors. Each one of us who has faced this devastating grief knows how difficult the path can be. This award is for everyone who has found the courage to share their story, for every supporter who has stood by a survivor, and for everyone who believes that healing is possible. Together, we are breaking the chains of silence around suicide loss, and we’re showing the world that there is hope and purpose beyond the pain.

The Road Ahead

While I am deeply honored to be recognized, I know there is still much more work to do. Suicide loss affects thousands of families every year, and our work at Mourning Glory is just beginning. With your support, we can continue to expand our outreach, provide more resources, and build a nationwide community of survivors. By working together, we can create indelible bonds that help survivors reclaim their lives and find the courage to love themselves again.

Transforming Pain into Strength

Adopting a "trauma positive" mindset involves understanding that trauma, while deeply challenging, can also lead to significant personal transformation. This approach highlights the potential for growth that arises from facing and processing our pain. Trauma positive thinking encourages us to use our experiences as catalysts for self-discovery, empathy, and strength. It’s about finding meaning in our suffering and using that insight to build a more resilient and supportive community. By embracing this mindset, we shift from merely surviving our trauma to actively harnessing its lessons to foster personal and collective healing.

Vulnerability as a Source of Empowerment

Central to the concept of "trauma positive" is the idea that vulnerability is not a weakness but a powerful source of empowerment. Sharing our stories and emotions, even when it feels uncomfortable, allows us to connect more deeply with ourselves and others. This openness can dismantle stigma, encourage mutual support, and create a space where healing can flourish. By embracing vulnerability, we acknowledge our humanity and invite others to do the same, fostering a sense of solidarity and understanding that is essential for navigating the complexities of grief and trauma.

Building a Supportive Community

At Mourning Glory, we are committed to fostering a "trauma positive" community where individuals feel empowered to share their experiences and support one another. Our approach is designed to create an environment where trauma is acknowledged as a part of the healing journey, not as something to be hidden or denied. By encouraging open dialogue and mutual support, we aim to build a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. This collective effort is vital in creating a space where healing and growth can thrive.
